Well, the race for the White House has now picked up steam since Thursday’s GOP presidential debate. That’s not the only thing that has picked up, though, unfortunately. Donald Trump's statements have too.
During the debate, Fox News anchor and debate moderator Megyn Kelly asked the real estate mogul about his comments towards women. The questioning when as follows:
Kelly: “Mr. Trump, one of the things people love about you is you speak your mind and you don’t use a politicians filter. However, that is not without its downsides, in particular when it comes to women. You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.”
Trump: “Only Rosie O’Donnell,” (Jokingly)
“No it wasn’t. Does that sound like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?”
Following the debate, Trump targeted Fox anchors and contributors who didn’t say he won the debate but his primary focus in the days since has been Megyn Kelly for her “unprofessional” questioning.
As if that wasn’t enough Trump’s supporters have decided that Megyn Kelly was just out to get Trump and tweeted mean, sexist comments about the Fox anchor – which Mr. Trump then retweeted.
And to make matters worse some conservative talk show hosts have attacked Kelly. Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin both attacked Kelly for mentioning the “war on women.”
Oh, but we can’t stop there. Supporters of Trump have started a petition to remove Megyn Kelly from debates. Need I say more?
Levin said of Kelly, “I’m getting tired of these lies and these attacks on Trump. I don’t like bullies.” Okay, Mr. Levin, let me ask you a question. Do you not think that Mr. Trump is being a bully to Megyn Kelly? Do you support the comments and tweets about Megyn Kelly?
The point of the Republican debates is to understand the candidates. To hear the views on the issues and their explanations for comments that were offensive, weird, or where people just had no idea what they were saying.
This is not the Democratic ticket. The Republicans are not pushing one candidate for the nomination. If the Republicans are to be successful, they need to talk about the issues and explain them and work out their defenses before their standing across from Hillary Clinton being asked about their disparaging comments on women.
Erick Erickson is not a “pathetic leader,” He is right. Someone so immature, so surrounded by “yes men” cannot be our president let alone the party’s nominee.
Let us remember what happened the last time the media had easy questions that didn’t bring up the contentious issues. In case you need help remembering, the then-senator is now the sitting president of the United States of America.
If you want another non-transparent administration, then go ahead and let the candidates control the questions. See what you get. And when five years have passed since the new president is sworn in, and you don’t like their policies and are surprised by their scandals, just remember when you said Donald Trump was right, and Megyn Kelly was wrong.
