Remember that memorable line during the first Democratic presidential debate? The one from Sen. Bernie Sanders where he said, “The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails,” after Hillary Clinton was asked about her private email server.
Sanders got a roaring applause and a nod and smile from Clinton, and that line was played over and over again on the mainstream media.
The conservative media outlets have picked up on a Wall Street Journal interview with Sanders and have spun it to seem like Sanders now thinks like a Republican on the matter - or at least not a Democrat supporting Clinton no matter what.
Sanders said in the interview that there are “valid questions,” about Clinton’s email server the paper reported.
The FBI is investigating whether the private server contained information. “You get 12 seconds to say these things,” Sanders said. “There’s an investigation going on right now. I did not say, “End the investigation.’ That's silly.”
“Let the investigation proceed unimpeded,” Sanders added.
So while the right wing media outlets will probably jump on this interview and make it seem like Sanders is trying to roll back his statement during the debate, I don’t think he is.
Sanders did not say during the debate that the investigation was pointless. It was his Ted Cruz moment during the debate. Obviously those two instances are a little different, but I think it’s important to note that Sanders did not say ‘end the investigation,’ he just wanted to talk about policy.
Don’t read too much into this.
