Good Tuesday Morning!
Business:
A partnership controlled by Marathon Petroleum has agreed to buy MarkWest Energy Partners LP for $15.8 in one of the biggest oil field deals since crude prices began to slump last summer. The combined company would have a mark capitalization of $21 billion making it the fourth largest limited partnership.
History:
This day in history in 1798, the Sedition Act became federal law. While America engaged in battle with Revolutionary France's naval forces, Hamilton and the federalists passed the Sedition Act. The act extended the period of time for immigrants to become citizens from five to fourteen years, gave the president the power to detain and deport those he saw as enemies. The fourth act gave the government the ability to prosecute those who published what the government saw as malicious remarks about the president or government.
International:
Iraqi security forces began an attempt to retake a province bordering the capital from the Islamic State on Monday. The joint operation includes the army, federal police, Shiite militias and Sunni tribal forces.
National:
Scott Walker became the 15th Republican candidate for president. Walker made his announcement in the same hall where he made his victory speech after surviving a recall vote in 2012. During his announcement he focused on the American dream and the battle against the Islamic State.
New York
New York City reached a settlement with the family of Eric Garner agreeing to pay $5.9 million to resolve a wrongful death case over his killing by police in Staten Island last July.
Have a great day!
