Electronics company Samsung preview of its earnings report shows a drop in profit. While the company was showing signs of a turn around, a preliminary report shows the company's earnings failed to miss analysts' expectations. In a statement the company said its operating profit fell 4% from April to June compared to the same time last year. Despite missing expectations in the second quarter, the profits were better than they were in the first quarter.
History:
This day in history in 1930, construction began on the Hoover Dam. Over the next five years over 21,000 men worked to build what was the largest dam of its time. Although the construction only took five years, the idea of the dam first came into being 30 years prior.
International:
Venezuela recalled its ambassador in Gayuna for consultation as tensions rose over the two nations' disputed border. Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro said he was conducting a review of the two nations' relations. "Venezuela is coming under new forms of assault and aggression," he said. "This is a grave, dangerous situation that we must combat with national unity."
National:
The South Carolina Senate voted 37-3 to remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds. The State house now has to vote on whether or not to remove the flag.
New York
New York City is reviewing security measures for its 256 homeless shelters. Safety of shelter workers came to light after the first shelter worker was killed by someone in the city shelter's system.
