Good Friday Morning!
Business:
Economists say that the U.S. economy is strong enough that global threats to the economy would not harm it. While China's stock market sinks and Greece's financial stability in question, economist say that domestic purchases and the house market would be sufficient to offset any drag from the world's number two economy.
History:
This day in history in 1996, TWA flight 800 explodes over Long Island. Shortly after taking off from New York's Kennedy International Airport killing all 230 people on board. When it was discovered that U.S. Navy vessels were training in the area, some believed the plane was accidentally downed by a missile. That idea was ruled out and in 1998 the investigation concluded that a mechanical failure was the cause of the explosion.
International:
Iran's president began his campaign to persuade Iranians to support the deal that was reached by five world powers and Iran. He touted the lifting of sanctions on Iran's aviation and food industries and other benefits the deal would bring. While many in Iran support the deal the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who has final say in most matters of state, has sent mixed messages about the deal and the attempt of reconciliation with the West.
National:
The FBI is investigating a shooting in Chattanooga, Tennessee that left four Marines and the gunman dead on Thursday. The case is being handled as a terrorism case but officials stress they still don't know the motives of the gunman, identified as 24-year-old Mohammod Youssof Abdulazeez. While the FBI has been investigating hundreds of people suspected of supporting ISIS, Mr. Abdulazeez was not one of them.
New York
The F.A.A and F.B.I are investigating 12 incidents in which 11 civilian and one military aircraft flying of New York and New Jersey were hit by laser beams. All flights landed safely, one pilot reported being temporarily blinded. Officials say the geographic spread of the laser beams indicate that it was not just one person. While the beam starts out small on the ground it expands several feet in the air and can temporarily blind pilots. President Obama signed a law making it a federal crime to shine laser at aircraft and the F.A.A. can levy a civil penalty of up to $11,000.
Have a great day!
